HEALTHY CITIZENRY: The City Government of Naga through the Office of the Sanitary Officer met with the owners/operators of all large-scale piggeries in the city on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at the Office of the City Mayor’s Board Room, City Hall of Naga, this city.

Discussed in the meeting was the strict implementation of the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of Chapter XIX Nuisance and Offensive Trades and Occupation, particularly Sec. 19 8.6.9 Animal Used for Commercial Purposes which is under Presidential Decree 856 or The Code on Sanitation of the Philippines.

Prior to the meeting and upon receiving various complaints from the public, the City Sanitary Office together with the City of Naga Environment and Natural Resources Office conducted several site inspections and found out that some owners violated the provisions of said law and did not adhere to the prescribed standards in operating a large scale piggery. Notable violations are the dumping of pig manure to the waterways, absence of septic tanks and operating without business permits. The City Government has given these operators until the end of the year to comply with the standards and requirements and rectify their violations or they will face sanctions.

A large scale piggery is classified as having 21 or more animal heads. A separate meeting will be scheduled for the owners of medium and backyard piggery operations.
